SPERM BANK CUSTOMER PROFILES: WHO USES SEMOVO DONOR SPERM?
6th October 2017If you’re thinking of donating sperm, you’ll want to know who may end up using it. Semovo serves many different types of would-be parents, in many different circumstances.
Our main customer profiles are:
Heterosexual couples: Heterosexual couples need donor sperm if the male partner is infertile. Donor sperm will give him the chance to become a Dad and have a family of his own.
Male infertility issues that necessitate the use of donor sperm are usually severe. In many cases, a man will have been through failed fertility treatments to try to use his own sperm first, leaving donor sperm as the only viable option.
To use a sperm donor in these circumstances can be a very emotional decision, and knowing that there are sperm donors available with Semovo and a good match can be found is very reassuring.
Single women: Single women rely on donor sperm to have children on their own. This profile of Semovo customer is growing as increasing numbers of women are willing to go solo into parenthood rather than waiting for the ‘right’ partner.
More women are leaving it later in life to have a family because of career aspirations, and also can’t afford to wait given their own declining fertility. Using a sperm donor means they can have a baby as soon as they’re ready, and can choose a sperm donor that has all the physical looks and attributes they like.
Same-sex couples & lesbian women: Same-sex couples and lesbian women are some of the biggest users of the Semovo sperm bank. Using a sperm bank rather than unregulated sources gives lesbian couples the reassurance of safe, health-screened donor sperm and guarantees the sperm donor is just that – he has no legal parental rights or responsibilities.
As it becomes a more widely accepted way to build a family thanks to changing social attitudes, many fertility clinics, including our sister clinic Manchester Fertility, offer dedicated LGBT fertility treatments using Semovo donor sperm.
Supplying your donated sperm
When you donate sperm to Semovo we don’t supply it for at-home donor insemination. We only supply donor sperm to licensed, regulated fertility clinics. Your donated sperm will be sent for use in fertility treatment such as intrauterine insemination, IVF or ICSI when someone chooses you as their sperm donor.
