SEMOVO: ENSURING THE HIGHEST QUALITY DONOR SPERM FOR PATIENT SUCCESS
16th May 2017When you donate sperm to Semovo, how do we ensure your sperm has the highest chance of success for those who are relying on it to have a baby?
There are many factors that influence whether using donor sperm results in pregnancy for a patient, but one of the main ways we do our bit at Semovo is to ensure that all sperm we supply to licensed clinics around the UK is the best quality it can be.
Because fertility treatment can be tough on sperm, and so it’s vital that your sperm can withstand all the processes involved and still be capable of fertilising an egg and creating a pregnancy. Here’s how we ensure your sperm makes the grade:
Donor selection
We’ll only accept you as a Semovo sperm donor if your sperm is exceptional, with a strong count, movement and shape. Remember it’s going to go through a lot to make a baby – much more than would be required for natural conception.
It could to be used in an IVF cycle, where your sperm is mixed with eggs in a laboratory. It could be injected directly into eggs to fertilise them through ICSI - eggs that could be from the patient herself, or an egg donor.
Or it might be used for Intrauterine Insemination (IUI), where treatment is precisely timed so your sperm is ready to fertilise the egg at the exact moment of ovulation.
Sperm Freezing
To even be in with the chance of creating a pregnancy through treatment at a fertility clinic, your sperm has to be able to survive the freeze/thaw process. All donor sperm is frozen as it’s not going to be used until someone chooses you as their sperm donor.
When your sperm arrives at the clinic, it’s thawed and analysed at precisely the right time in the patient’s treatment cycle, so it’s ready to fertilise the eggs or be used by insemination.
Guaranteed supply
Semovo donor sperm is supplied to clinics all around the country, so shipment needs great care to guarantee its viability.
